Liverpool International Football Academy is a ground breaking move to establish India's first ever club residential Academy. The partnership between Liverpool FC and DSK Shivajians FC was aimed at creating a unique platform for nurturing and promoting talented footballers in India.
The Academy was launched on 3rd June 2014 by Jamie Carragher, Liverpool FC Legend. A state-of-the-art facility, which includes a 4G artificial turf and one natural turf plus a 10,000 seater stadium, is based in DSK Dream City. Facilities also include a modern gymnasium, swimming pool, recreational area, and more. Moreover, coaches from Liverpool FC reside at the Academy across the year.
To form the first 2014-15 squad of the Liverpool International Football Academy – DSK Shivajians, the coaches from Liverpool FC embarked on a six city scouting tour, where more 3000 players participated in the trials. In 2015, the Academy visited Goa to begin its scouting to form the 2015-16 squad. More than 400 players participated in the Goa trials. The final round of trials to form the 2015-16 squad was held in Pune, where over 600 players participated over two days.
Over the course of last season, the Academy participated in the Under 19 I-League as DSK Shivajians. In what was an impressive feat, the team comprising of Academy players qualified for the final round from the Maharashtra Zone. Academy players also participated in the PDFA League, where they maintained a winning record of over 90% throughout the first round of the tournament.
